- This combination was formed during the summer, and says a good deal for the efforts of Mr. W.B. Upton, the present secretary. Some 18 (sic) clubs comprise the whole organisation.
Several clubs will play on private ground, the remainder relying on the L.C.C. pitches. With good management to local combination should prosper.
--- South London Mail - Saturday 22 September 1894
The Clapham organisation has for its president Mr. H. Morton Carr, and, as an Old Carthusian, he takes an intelligent interest in the doings of the rising footballers. The Claphamites are fortunate in their honorary officials, who between them should manage a couple of muchly needed trophies. A satisfactory feature of the Clapham League is the stability of the clubs concerned, who, almost without exception, have weathered the storms of many football seasons. Another pleasant feature should be the Tuesday evening "social" held weekly by the Clapham F.C. at the Craven Hotel. Members of any of the League or Alliance clubs, so Mr. Upton informs me, will be welcome whenever they care to pay a visit. --- Evening News (London) - Saturday 29 September 1894
