The short journey to Richmond Road resulted in an archetypal game of two halves, but no points for the Dons. Clark was unavailable due to an injury, Parsons stepping in alongside Fuller at the back and the forward line was re-arranged with Reeves and Richfield preferred to Taylor and Chandler.

The first half belonged to the home side, their speedy forward line proving far too good for the visitor's defence. Smith headed home Johnson's cross after fifteen minutes and when Sinclair nodded home Smith's corner soon after the home supporters were expecting a rout. Reeves tried to bring the Dons back into the game but shot over only for Corinthian Casuals to go straight back up the other end and increase their lead, Couchman beating Cains to Smith's cross to make it 3-0 at the break.

The half-time lemons did wonders for Wimbledon and they came out a different team. Five minutes in and the deficit was reduced, Richfield cutting a swathe through the opposition defence before firing an unstoppable rising drive past Davies. The Dons then dominated proceedings, although unable to break through the well marshalled defence, until Head was injured in a collision with the keeper that slowed them down for a spell. Unfortunately the home side took advantage of the lapse in pressure to break quickly down the other end, Parsons failing to chase back believing the ball was going out, but Sinclair beat it to the touchline and easily picked out Johnson to redress the three goal margin. Thereafter Wimbledon continued to have the best of the half. Meredith and Reeves advanced down the left and the home team blocked several shots before Lemmer found the net. Reeves then shot a foot wide with a great effort, but it wasn't until the last minute that the visitors pulled back another, Meredith coolly lobbing the advancing keeper. It wasn't enough, the final whistle halting a rousing finish.
