Mousehole

The following day the Dons were again playing at Penzance, taking on the quaintly named Mousehole (pronounced Muzzle). Bob Seares, a regular in the reserves who had played a couple of first team games a couple of seasons ago, stepped in to give Harry Stannard a rest and Freddie Gauntlett and Harry Bull switched sides, Gauntlett tucking inside Seares. Vic Bird also stood down for Jim Smith.

Played in slight rain and a blustery wind, the fresh legs of the replacements proved pivotal. Jim Smith got the only goal of the first half just before the break, although the Dons had missed many chances before that and should have been home and dry.

Wimbledon continued to run the game in the second period, Gauntlett helping himself to a brace and Charlie Smith added the fourth just before the final whistle.
