Wimbledon snatched a late point to deny Steve Parkin a debut victory as Barnsley's new boss.

Barnsley looked to be heading for only their second three-point haul in 12 games when Bruce Dyer put them ahead after 51 minutes.

But just three minutes from time Kevin Cooper pounced to spare Wimbledon's blushes.

The few chances created during a lacklustre first-half fell Barnsley's way.

Tykes skipper Chris Morgan headed home a 13th minute Darren Barnard free-kick, only to be denied by a linesman's flag for offside.

Dons keeper Kelvin Davis was forced to tip over an awkward hanging cross from Kevin Donovan, before then smartly saving a powerful Richard Barker header.

But just six minutes after the break Davis was beaten as Donovan fed Dyer for the forward to place his shot into the bottom left-hand corner from 12 yards.

Wimbledon then took control in terms of possession and territory, but it was Barnsley who should have sealed the points.

Davis initially pulled off a stunning save to deny 62nd-minute substitute Eric Tinkler, while Dyer could only fire straight at the Wimbledon keeper when in a perfect position to score eight minutes from time.

Dyer was left to rue that miss when Cooper was left all alone at the far post after a David Connolly low cross had made its way through a crowded six-yard box.
