Borough Polytechnic, now South Bank University (and still playing after merging into South Bank CUACO), gave the Dons a much stiffer test on their visit to the Turney Road Sports Ground in Dulwich. Cains missed his only game of the season with 'flu, Edwards deputising, and Chandler, who had impressed playing opposition for Youngs Athletic, replacing Cooper. Hunt also returned to the centre-back line in place of Smith, selected to represent Surrey Juniors. The Borough side were missing a player, so Wimbledon's Pettyfer played outside-left for them.

Kicking up the slope in the first half having lost the toss, Taylor was finding the space to put in some good crosses, but the Polytechnic defenders were crowding out the other forwards and it was against the run of play when the home side broke forward and their inside-right gave Edwards no chance with a good shot. The Dons continued to press, but it wasn't until five minutes before the break that they managed to draw level when Lemmer worked his way into the area and beat the keeper with a cross-short.

The second half was almost one way traffic as Wimbledon poured forward in search of a winner, but the Polytechnic defence were both resolute and had luck on their side, with the framework hit on several occasions. It appeared a goal was inevitable, and it was, eventually, Taylor driving in from the right and beating the keeper. Borough were stung and tried to hit back, breaking away several times but coming up against a solid defence.
