Magill replaced Clark in the half-back line and Wallis was preferred to old hander Cannon alongside Cousins at the back as the Dons cruised to another heavy win.

Soon after the start the Clapton forward Peart injured himself heading clear and while he was off the field Nash put the Dons ahead, Laker and Stannard combining to put Nash in on goal with eighteen minutes gone. Only wild shooting and remarkable goalkeeping kept the home side from increasing the lead before the break, although two efforts found the net only to be disallowed. Firstly a Clapton defender mis-kicked, both Nash and Stannard chased the ball and forced the ball over the line, but the referee had spotted an infringement and called the game back for a free-kick, then Edelston, who had been limping for some time, turned in a pass from Stannard only to be given offside.

The Dons had only had one shot to deal with in the first half, yet only three minutes after the break Clapton equalised, Bennett receiving a pass from Bateman and beating Haydock at the second attempt. It only took the home side two minutes to re-gain their lead, Nash crossed from the right and both Laker and Edelston dummied the ball through and Head scored with a nice shot. Two minutes further and the lead was increased, Laker firing home through a crowd of players and it was game over. The forwards were rampart thereafter and only Robson kept the score below double-figures. Nash headed home Laker’s corner, then Laker scored following good work from Edelston. Robert’s received a great ovation when he saved Lemmer’s penalty, but was unable to keep out further efforts from Stannard and Head before the end.
