Clarke was missing, replaced by Digweed, and Walker again stood in for Laker, otherwise it was the first choice team that were back in action in front of Richmond Road’s largest crowd of the season, in an effort to secure at least some silverware for the season.

The first half was a dull affair, with both sides playing as if they’d had quite enough football for one season, thank you. The Dons scored the only goal of the just after the half-hour mark, Edelston converting Walker’s cross.

The second half was little better apart from a five minute spell that saw three goals scored. On the hour Godding headed in Grimwood’s center, but the Dons regained the lead two minutes later when Stannard beat two men and passed to Edelston, who set Nash away, his cross was met by Head and his header was well judged, leaving Lindsay stranded. Within three minutes the scores were level again, another Grimshaw centre, this time Johnson the recipient.

Walton & Hersham did the majority of the pressing during extra time and took the lead for the first time with the goal of the game from Johnson. Wimbledon hardly had an effort worth of the name before the teams turned around, but once they had they immediately forced three corners, each rather luckily scrambled away from danger. Three minutes from the end the Dons found the leveller. Stannard beat Martin and Guess to move out wide and his cross found Edelston a few yards out, he turned and half beat Lindsay, who recovered and picked the ball up and threw it clear, but Edelston and sundry other lurking Dons appealed for the point and the officials agreed, necessitating yet another game on Wednesday at the same ground.
