Father William was a dairyman and the three sons were in the family business. It was rare that they played together, with George and Frederick mostly playing alternate weekends and Charles only playing occasionally. Living at The Warren, part of what would later become Canizairo, one of them must have been frustrated to be working while the other played just a goal-kick away on the Common.
