Tall, slim half-back who joined Wimbledon at the start of the 1957/58 season after transferring jobs in the civil service from Newcastle to London. Answering to "Ginger" and known to the crowd as the red-header rover, Bill made his debut on his 22nd birthday in an unhappy 1-4 defeat against Tooting & Mitcham and added a handful of appearances before the end of his debut season, including two games on the Easter tour of the Channel Islands. He was tipped to take a regular place at the onset of the following campaign and was one of the Dons first ever non-injury subs in the first game of that season, the friendly against Luneray in France, and played in the 5-4 win over Woking - notable for Roy Law's debut, but an ankle injury kept him out of action for three months and he found it difficult to force his way back into a side pushing for their first Isthmian League title in over twenty years. A regular in the successful reserve team, Bill was hopeful of forcing his way into the first team in 1959/60, but was dropped to the third XI after falling out with Les Henley and resigned shortly afterwards. Despite offers from elsewhere, he turned out regularly for his company side, Legal and General Assurance, thereafter until hanging up his boots.
