Stephen Anthrobus played with the youth team of Millwall, turning professional in 1986. He later played for Wimbledon, Peterborough United, Chester City, Shrewsbury Town, Crewe Alexandra, Oxford United and Total Network Solutions.

In 2003 he became player-manager of Hednesford Town, a position he held until May 2006.
