Full Name: Frederick James Kearsey Gregory Date of Birth: 21 December 1900 Place of Birth: Fulham, London Date of Death: Q4 1969 Place of Death: Wandsworth, London Fred Gregory (1922/23 - 1931/32) Wimbledon News 1929: "After an absence of two seasons F.J. Gregory, the amateur international, has returned to the ranks of the Wimbledon F.C. His appearance in the team who defeated London Caledonians in the opening game of the season on Saturday caused much jubilation amongst the Wimbledon supporters. Gregory has been playing with Millwall as an amateur, and has frequently featured in the "Lions" first team. His defensive abilities are too well known to our football readers to need description. Undoubtedly he has profited from his experience with Millwall and, with Sowter as his partner, Wimbledon should have as sound a pair of backs as any other club in the Isthmian League." Later joined Leyton and played in the 1933/34 Amateur Cup final before returning to the committee at Wimbledon when he retired from playing. Born in Fulham in 1900, the son of a Clapham Rovers player who was with the Club when they won the F.A. Cup in 1879/80 (although he didn't play in the final), Fred gained representative honours with South London Schoolboys while at Swaffield Road school in Wandsworth, which he also represented at swimming and boxing. He continued his education at the Regent Street Polytechnic, playing for their senior team between 1913 and 1917, after which he joined the War effort on sea. On return he played for local side Glendale between 1919 to 1921, gaining Southern District League representative honours before joining Wimbledon during the 1921/22 season, selected to play for Surrey in his first season in senior football. Also a fine tennis player, he helped Wandsworth Common to the inter-Parks competition title in 1922. Represented the England football side at amateur level 14 times between 1927 and 1934. Joined Millwall in 1927, rejoining Wimbledon in 1929 before moving to Leyton in 1931 where he played until retiring in 1934, after which he returned to Wimbledon and took the post of reserve team manager. Played 10 times for Surrey F.A. and won his cap and badge for the London F.A. and represented the Isthmian League 14 times. One of the greatest full backs ever to play for the club. 1922/23: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 1923/24: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 1924/25: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 1925/26: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 1926/27: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 1929/30: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 1930/31: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 1931/32: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 - Total: Appearances: 0 - Substitute: 0 - Goals: 0 Genealogical Research: These are research notes and may not relate to the player.
