Arthur joined the Dons in 1946 after seeing service as a paratrooper during the Second World War, serving in France, Greece and Africa. Having played for South London Schoolboys, he played most of his first season in the strollers and played for the reserves in the London Intermediate Cup semi-final towards the end of March, then was thrust into first team action when players were falling thick and fast during the post Amateur Cup final fixture congestion. He became regular first choice the following season as Wimbledon fell away from the title race in the last week, but won the Surrey Senior Cup 5-0 against Tooting & Mitcham at Selhurst Park and was a mainstay of the defence that helped the club to two Isthmian League runners-up spots before leaving at the end of the 1954/55 season.

Was a stock-keeper for John Lewis after the War, then spent 37 years as a messenger for Coutts, the bankers, before retiring to Bournemouth in 1987, where he passed away in April 1995.
