Tony joined the junior team from Arsenal's youth set-up soon after the start of the 1958/59 season and worked through the ranks to become a solid back-up centre-half to Roy Law.

Nicknamed Cheyenne after the gentleman cowboy in the television series of the same name, he joined Sutton United during the 1963 close season.
