Paul Priddy
(1978/79)
Paul Priddy was another goalkeeper, from Brentford, where he had been playing as an amateur and was described as a 'very promising young goualkeeper' at the time. However, he played only the opening match in HayesÂ’ Isthmian League debut season in August 1971 before being replaced by the more experienced John Overton from Kingstonian. Paul later joined Maidenhead United, Wimbledon and Walton & Hersham, before returning to Brentford in 1975. He spent two seasons playing league football before moving to Totting & Mitcham United, Wealdstone and Oxford City. He rejoined Hayes in 1980 on a 1-year contract and made 67 appearances, missing only two games and conceding 71 goals. At the end of the season he was named Sportsman of the Year. During his time at Hayes Paul was selected for the league side against Combined Services. In 1981 he returned to Brentford, becoming one of the few examples of a player who had rejoined a league side from non-league football not once, but twice. He came out of retirement in November 1983 to play for Hampton and sustained an injury which necessitated the removal of his spleen. He was goalkeeping coach at Aldershot in 2003, when the photograph below was taken.
