At QPR as a schoolboy, Richard Teale joined Walton and Hersham in 1970 and went on to star in the Swans FA Amateur Cup win in 1973 before returning to Loftus Road as an understudy to Phil Parkes. He had moved onto Fulham by the time Wimbledon came in for him in the summer of 1977 and he competed with Dickie Guy for a place in the Dons Fourth Division side.

Having made just 15 appearances he moved onto Slough Town the following year and won the Isthmian League and cup double with the Rebels in 1981.
