An ex-QPR youth team player, where he played alongside soon to be Dons Paul Haverson and Craig Richards, as well as future England internationals Paul Goddard and Clive Allen. Terry signed on a part-time contract from Bromley before the start of the 1978/79 season and came on as a sub in the pre-season friendly at Gravesend & Northfleet.

Believed to have attended Holy Trinity CoE School in Wimbledon, then possibly Henry Thornton's in Clapham.
