Les Briley
(1977/78 - 1979/80)
A crucial influence as Wimbledon turned round their fortunes during their first Division Four campaign, Les Briley skippered the Dons to promotion the following year. An ex Chelsea apprentice under Dario Gradi, he moved to Third Division champions Hereford United in May 1976 before being reunited with Gradi at Plough Lane for a record £16,000 fee in February 1978.

A skilful and competitive midfielder he was quickly made captain and made 61 league appearances before a financial crisis meant he was sold to Aldershot for £40,000 in March 1980. After helping the Shots to promotion in 1983-84 he moved to Millwall in May 1984 and was a key figure as the Lions went from the Third Division to the top flight in successive years. He later played for Brighton before becoming player manager at Slough Town. More recently he was a youth coach at Millwall.
