Patrick joined Wimbledon as a defender in the late 1940s and is first noted playing for the reserves in a 9-7 friendly victory over Hurlingham in January 1948. After several games for the Strollers XI, and at least one trip to the south coast for Frank Headicar's annual cricket fixture, Patrick joined Corinthian-Casuals where he played in the forward line.
