Patrick - unsurprisingly known as Paddy - was a former Ireland amateur international left-half, having played twice for his nation of birth against Scotland in 1929 (while with St. Albans City, 8 appearances 1929/30) and 1930 (while with Uxbridge Town).

He followed his younger brother, Frank, into the first team at Wimbledon, coming into the side when captain Tommy Goodchild was injured.
