Harry Stannard
(1935/36 - 1953/54)
Putney born Harry Stannard, was 17 when he wrote to Wimbledon for a trial in 1935 and that simple letter was to lead to an association with the club that was to last for the rest of his life. He made his first team debut in the 1936-37 season when he scored 16 goals in 25 appearances and had already netted 95 times for the club by the time all league fixtures were suspended for the duration of the second World War.
He was in his early 20s when he was called up to fight and he served the Royal Army Ordinance Corps and the Royal Fusiliers with distinction over the next six years. Returning to Plough Lane after he had been demobbed he took up where he had left off. A key member of the side that reached the 1947 Amateur Cup final, he scored the opening goal at Highbury, only to end up on the losing side.

He continued to lead the attack for six more seasons forming lethal partnerships with first Vic Bird and then Freddie Gauntlett. When he was finally forced to step down from the first team he turned out for the reserves until he was 37. Then, under the leadership of coach Les Henley, he was named as team manager a role that kept him involved at the heart of the club until the mid 1970s when he became a Vice President. His 292 first team goals put among the club's all time top scores.

Joint holder of Wimbledon's individual goalscoring record, scoring six in the clubs 9-3 victory over Guildford in the 1950/51 F.A. Cup.
