Alan Cork
(1977/78 - 1991/92)
What he lacked in hair he made up for in goals! A Wimbledon institution for more than fourteen seasons, Alan Cork scored 168 goals in more than 500 appearances for the club. Making his debut as a teenager in February 1978, he got into his stride that autumn when he hit 25 goals in all competitions helping the Dons to promotion. However, his form dipped in the Third Division and he only managed 13 goals as the team were relegated.

He top scored again as Wimbledon were promoted in the 1980-81 season but broke his leg the following autumn in a match at Walsall. He was out of action for nearly eighteen months, only returning towards the end of the Dons Fourth Division title winning year. After a summer building up his strength in Sweden, he took the Third Division by storm in the 1983,84 campaign scoring 33 goals as his side won a second successive promotion.

A season of consolidation followed before Dave Bassett's men were upwardly mobile again and Cork weighed in with fifteen goals as the club reached the dizzy heights of the First Division in 1986. Once in the top flight he started to be used more often as a substitute but nonetheless he played for more than an hour at Wembley in 1988. He continued to be part of the squad until 1992 when he rejoined Dave Bassett at Sheffield United.

He enjoyed cult status at Bramall Lane developing a long, grey beard and coming off the bench to great effect. After retiring from playing he worked as a coach under Mickey Adams at Fulham, Swansea, Leicester and Sheffield United.

He holds the Wimbledon record for both appearances and goals at Football League level and he is the only man to have scored in all four pre 1992 divisions plus the Premier League for the same club.
