James Tilley scored a late penalty to earn AFC Wimbledon a draw with Wrexham.

Jacob Mendy picked out midfielder Elliot Lee who fired the visitors ahead on 22 minutes with the game's first shot on target.

Dons goalkeeper Alex Bass then denied Thomas O'Connor and debutant James McClean before Ben Foster saved Ali Al-Hamadi's penalty in the 66th minute.

But Tilley later converted after Eoghan O'Connell brought down Harry Pell to ensure the points were shared.

Wimbledon head coach Johnnie Jackson:

"I thought we came back into the game really well and I thought we were unlucky to be behind at half-time.

"A deflected goal was a bit unfortunate, we didn't feel we deserved to be 1-0 down at half-time but the lads responded in the second-half.

"It ebbed and flowed after that so I'd say a draw is a fair result, but obviously we want to win and I feel like we are capable of beating these teams."

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson:

"It's a difficult place to come, they're very direct.

"We dealt with it in the main well, probably towards the end of the game we should have won it.

"But we'll take a first point of the season and get back on the road for Tuesday night.

"If everyone looks at the penalties against us, in terms of what had been going on in both boxes throughout the game, to pick those moments out and give penalties for the first and second one is incredible."
