The Dons first visit to Wycombe Wanderers since a friendly at the start of the War provided an entertaining game and there was a good crowd in attendance despite the rain. Bridge and Corke again swapped starting positions with Parsons and Webb and Odell started up front in place of K Meredith. Wanderers had continued to play throughout the war and were crowned champions of the Great Western League, so the Dons were always anticipating a tough tussle. They weren't disappointed. It took no longer than three minutes for the first goal but Meredith equalised ten minutes later. The home centre-forward put his side ahead with a good shot and despite the visitors forcing several corners that remained the score at the break. |
