Unwins' Wimbledon career was over after just two games as he returned to Redhill, where he had played for several years before joining Sutton, so Mortimer became the third player to take a stand between the sticks in just six games. Fuller was also unavailable, his military unit having moved to the North, Len Cannon was fortunately on leave and able to take his place. Reeves had the first shot, beating two defenders before forcing a fine save from Jover, but it was Dulwich who took the lead when Jover took advantage of a mistake from Parsons to score a clever goal. Mortimer was forced to save from both Smith and Jover keeping the home side's advantage to a single goal at half-time. |
