Another re-jigged line-up and another heavy defeat for the Dons. Bridge failed to recover from his injury received the previous week, Fuller and Iles, selected for his debut, were unable to get away from military duty and Smith was unavailable, so Fuce dropped back into defence alongside Webb, and Field, Ugle and Stewart were promoted from the reserves.

Again, Wimbledon started brightly, both Stewart and Richfield made chances but shot over, but unbeaten Oxford soon got into their stride and tested Mortimer. With twenty minutes on the clock the home side took the lead, Hager getting the final touch to a goalmouth melee. City forced several corners that the visitors defended well, but a mistake from Webb allowed Hager to double the lead. The Dons could not be faulted for their effort, and before half-time Richfield hit the inside of the post, but the ball bounced across goal to safety.

Oxford pressed home their advantage after the break and Mortimer was prominent, saving shot after shot, but Irish took advantage of a defensive lapse to add the third, and the same player added the fourth after Mortimer could only parry out a shot from James. Lemmer, captain in place of Bridge, swopped Ugle and Richfield at this point and almost immediately Meredith pulled one back from a corner. However, that was all Wimbledon could manage and Jones scored number five for City ten minutes from the final whistle.
