Owing to ground difficulties this match was switched to Plough Lane. Haydock was again absent, selected for Surrey against Dorset, and when Whiteman failed to show Ford, a reserve-team full-back, was thrown between the sticks. Fennell moved from the front line to his customary position at the expense of Clark and Richfield, Edelston and Viard completed the front line with Meredith standing down and Head selected reserve. Both sets of forwards seemed too eager near goal, Richfield shooting straight at the keeper at one end then Smith ballooning over from close range at the other. An injury to Neil early in the game forced him to the dressing room and although he re-appeared after the break he was unable to continue and soon retired for good. This gave Park the advantage and Smith tested the stand-in keeper with three good shots, but Wimbledon held out until half-time. |
