Owing to ground difficulties this match was switched to Plough Lane. Haydock was again absent, selected for Surrey against Dorset, and when Whiteman failed to show Ford, a reserve-team full-back, was thrown between the sticks. Fennell moved from the front line to his customary position at the expense of Clark and Richfield, Edelston and Viard completed the front line with Meredith standing down and Head selected reserve.

Both sets of forwards seemed too eager near goal, Richfield shooting straight at the keeper at one end then Smith ballooning over from close range at the other. An injury to Neil early in the game forced him to the dressing room and although he re-appeared after the break he was unable to continue and soon retired for good. This gave Park the advantage and Smith tested the stand-in keeper with three good shots,but Wimbledon held out until half-time.

The Dons came out with renewed vigour after the interval and Ivey was pressed into a hurried clearance from a bundle and a flying save from Fuce. Tufnell Park took the lead from a freak goal, Taylor chased a pass from Price to the touchline and whipped in a cross that curled in off the back post. Wimbledon continued with determination but Ivey and his backs were just as determined and frustrated every effort from the four man forward line. With fifteen minutes remaining Fuce got away in the centre, but he was tackled by two retreating defenders and consequently limped off, leaving only nine men in white and blue. Try as they might the three remaining forwards were unable to breach the visiting defence and, despite honour in defeat, defeat it was.
