Apart from Gill and Douglas swopping positions it was the same team that took on Woking the previous week.

The Dons again started with a dash and were two goals up after ten minutes. Davies, the parson keeper for the visitors, had already saved smartly from Gill before Eden flicked the ball on for Nash to score on the run after seven minutes. The second came from Edelston, he snapped up a pass from Gill and smashed the ball in. The third goal was not long coming, a corner from Nash headed home by Head. Despite Wimbledon's ascendency, the Old Boys were dangerous on the break and Haydock had to deal with shots from Gage and Finch. Back up the other end Edelston, Viard and Nash were all denied. Just before the break Cannon brought down Bennett and Gage reduced the advantage from the penalty spot.

Accustomed to the Dons fading in the second half of recent games the home support were pleasantly surprised when, within five minutes of the restart, Head increased the lead with a right-foot drive. Casuals, as always, showed no lack of determination. Haydock saved wonderfully at point-blank range from Gage, but was unlucky when Binch's header hit him and rebounded straight back to the outside-left, who flicked it into the net before he could recover. Wimbledon hit back and Head hit the base of the post with a tremendous shot, then Edelston hit the bar with the goalkeeper stranded. Head beat several opponents but was on his wrong foot and shot wide, then the visitors countered and Haydock made a grand save from Boardman. There was a final scare when Gill misplaced a back-pass, but the home keeper managed to dive across the goal and clear the danger.
