Spurs included five professionals for this friendly fixture and were thus vastly superior to the home side. Viard was absent, so Richfield started outside Gill on the left wing, both out of position.

Tottenham dominated the first thirty minutes and gave Haydock every chance to impress with shots from all angles. The only time he was beaten was by a clever Ferris header from a wide free-kick. Nash put in some good shots and Edelston shot over from close range. Before the half was over Cannon cleared off the line from Foot after Haydock had blocked a shot from Woodward.

Ten minutes into the second half the visitors increased their lead when Foot rode Fuller's tackle and flicked the ball past the keeper. The Dons pulled one back when Nash cut in and was tackled by Tickeridge, the ball ran loose to Edelston and he scored. Watson twice had to punch clear in quick succession from goal-bound headers from Nash and Richfield and for a spell the home side had a fair portion of the game. Eden twice went close with good shots and Richfield over-ran the ball when presented with a good opening. With ten minutes remaining the Spurs keeper was forced to leave the field after colliding with Edelston, but it was Tottenham that had the final say, Foot scoring the final goal two minutes from the end.
