Leytonstone brought the Amateur Cup with them, but the home side literally didn’t turn up, as an entire reserve team was selected. In the end Perkins was a no-show and Nash stepped in, but it was always going to be a struggle for the youngsters on show, and it was no surprise that the home record finally fell.

And early goal from Smith, turning Crowe’s centre out of the reach of King, started the scoring and Noble got the second after twenty minutes when Digweed misjudged his pass back to the keeper and Noble nipped in to net.

The Dons held out until ten minutes after the break when Groves scored a good goal, and Lister hit the fourth, a deflected free-kick. The display did not deserve such a heavy reverse, but Wimbledon were let down by their finishing, although Finch managed a consolation seven minutes from the end, slipping through the defence onto a pass from Meredith.
