The Dons were in rampant mood at Plough Lane as they equalled the record number of goals scored for the club in a game that could only be described as farcical. Bridge, Taylor and Lemmer were part of the team that played the last time the Dons racked up 15 goals, although Bridge was unavailable for this game, one of six changed from the previous week. Chandler, the ex-Young's centre-forward, replaced McGuire, who was suffering from a badly cut hand and, incredibly A Stacey, son of pre-War Wimbledon player Bert Stacey, was to make his only first team appearance in this game.

Young's were not helped by an injury to their full-back, D Read, who was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured wrist, although by then the home team had already scored their seven first-half goals, and at 5-0 the Dons half-back, Webb, was forced to leave the field and was advised not to continue, although he resumed after the break.

Describing the individual goals was considered pointless by the local newspaper at the time, but the order was as follows; First half: Taylor, James, Meredith, Chandler, Meredith, Stacey, Stacey. Second half: Meredith, Taylor, Meredith, Taylor, Smith, James, James, Meredith.

Cains, in the Dons goal, touched the ball no more than half a dozen times during the proceedings and Chandler was unlucky only to score once against his ex-colleagues, and would have had a hat-trick had he not been to eager.
