The Dons first home league game in six years ended with the enthusiastic crowd demonstrating against the referee at the end of the game, after several strange rulings by the official. Iles was again unable to get away from military duties and Stannard, who had hoped to be available, wasn't. The return of Smith allowed Fuce to re-take his place up front and Prett was preferred to Reeves, partnering Meredith, who was not originally selected and played in borrowed boots. The Dons went behind early on. Mortimer was twice forced to concede corners, on the second Field missed his clearance and Sutton crossed for Jennings to score. Sutton forced another good save before Meredith took the attack to the other end and gained a corner which Richfield headed just over from. Fuce shot lamely when presented with a good chance, but made amends with the equalising goal, lying handy to scramble in Barratt's clearance when Richfield centred. |
