Wimbledon started their Surrey Senior Cup campaign with a visit to Richmond Road and gained revenge for the heavy league defeat two weeks previously. Fuller returned to the back pair in place of Silver, pre-war bit part player Blanche was demobbed and took Lemmer's position in the half-back line and Neil became the latest player selected to try and fill the problem centre-forward position. The Dons appeared determined to win from the first whistle to the last, with the right wing pairing and Neil putting together some clever passing moves, but it wasn't until a few minutes before the interval that they took the lead. Richfield and Ugle worked the ball to the edge of the home penalty area and Richfield found Neil, who laid it back for Ugle to crash the ball home. |
