Surrey Senior Cup - 1st Round

Kingstonian
?
1 - 2
Wimbledon
Jack Fennell, TJ Ugle

Wimbledon started their Surrey Senior Cup campaign with a visit to Richmond Road and gained revenge for the heavy league defeat two weeks previously. Fuller returned to the back pair in place of Silver, pre-war bit part player Blanche was demobbed and took Lemmer's position in the half-back line and Neil became the latest player selected to try and fill the problem centre-forward position.

The Dons appeared determined to win from the first whistle to the last, with the right wing pairing and Neil putting together some clever passing moves, but it wasn't until a few minutes before the interval that they took the lead. Richfield and Ugle worked the ball to the edge of the home penalty area and Richfield found Neil, who laid it back for Ugle to crash the ball home.

K's retaliated immediately after the oranges, Abbott heading in a cross from Rixon, and they almost took the lead a few minutes later when Mortimer finally ended a goalmouth scramble by turning the ball around for a corner. He was injured during the process, but able to continue after the magic sponge was administered. Neil was just beaten by Turner to a through ball and Lemmer had a couple of shots that were easily dealt with before the visitors again took the lead halfway through the second period. Hesitation in the Kingstonian defence allowed Fennell to nip through and, despite several challenges, he kept control and scored a splendid goal.
