Stannard's leave was over, so Neil returned to lead the attack, with Gill resuming at right-half in place of Lloyd who replaced Ugle in the forward five. The Dons had the better of a scrappy first half, but the inside-forwards were not on best form and chances were limited to individual efforts. Neil's attempts were easily thwarted and Richfield shot wide after beating three opponents. Smith got the only goal of the period when Neil ran through and, challenged by two defenders, laid the ball on a plate. A shot from Smith caused Ivey trouble, the ball slipping beneath the keeper, but he twisted and stopped the ball from crossing the line. Weston was providing dangerous crossed from the visitors left, but found no support from his colleagues, but they drew level from a Fennel corner, Price heading in. Up the other end Smith was inches wide from a thrice taken corner, then Richfield shot wide while the keeper was stranded. Neil was thwarted by Ivey's outstretched leg and Fletcher wasted a good Tufnell Park chance when he handled. The Dons pushed on with determination, Gill fired in a long shot that went close, Lloyd shot wide from close range and Richfield raced away on the wing and crossed to Neil, but Ivey rushed out and just beat him to it. A rousing finish, but only a point to show for it. |
