Tom Laker was selected in place of Ken Meredith, but was unable to play, so Len Taylor got another go at outside-left, otherwise it was an unchanged team for the visit of fellow strugglers and eventual wooden spoon winners, Kingstonian. It was a nervous start from the Dons, with Haydock not as confident in his handling as usual and the backs forced to clear off the line on more than one occasion. At the other end the wings seemed determined to score rather than pass to better placed Edelston. Even so, K's were still in a tangle in defence, Richfield and Fuce combining well and Bryant forced to save from Edelston and Fennell before Fuce scored the opening goal. With eighteen minutes gone Richfield fastened on to a loose ball just inside the opposition half and, chased by two defenders, kept the ball under control and beat the keeper. Wimbledon overwhelmed the visitors for the rest of the half, but were unable to increase their lead. |
