With Pat Edelston still injured Alec Fuce was preferred to Maurice Richfield, playing outside left with Harry Stannard moving to the centre-forward role. Johnny Cousins was selected in place of Frank Lemmer, but with Len Cannon unavailable he moved into the back line with Lemmer continuing at right-half. In the first half, with a strong wind behind them, the Dons' forward line struggled to get their passing game going in the final third. Even so, Stannard forced Kitchener into a clearance and Head smashed the ball against the foot of the post. Casuals should have scored when Gage beat Haydock to a through ball, but shot wide. Head hooked a shot the hit Weir, the keeper was unable to gather the loose ball, but Cambridge scrambled it clear, thus the first half ended goalless. |
