Cannon returned at the expense of Wallis, else it was the same team that demolished St. Albans City the previous weekend. It was a game of two distinct styles, Wimbledon's short passing game contrasting with the Casuals swinging passes from wing to wing. For almost half an hour both sides stumbled on reaching the defensive line and the keepers were rarely troubled. The visitor had the best chance, but Hoare mis-kicked in front of goal after Gage's cross had found him clear. A shot from Stannard beat Cousins, but Cambridge cleared off the line then, with the half-hour mark approaching, Edelston broke down the left and his centre found head, who drove the ball into the net at tremendous pace. Three minutes before the interval Stannard latched onto a cross from Laker and increased the Dons' lead.

Five minutes after the re-start Edelston and Laker put together a nice passing move which resulted in the former beating the keeper with a right-foot drive. Fifteen minute later Head shook the crossbar with a header from a Laker corner, the right-back cleared to Rhys, who concluded his run with a pass from which Sinclair reduced the gap with a clever goal. This encouraged the visitors and Haydock was forced to make several saves. His good positioning and safe handling was enough to take the sting out of the visitors and the home side were unlucky not to add another score before the end, Edelston heading a corner against the bar and Head's fierce follow-up shot hit a defender and bounced clear. The points moved Wimbledon up into second place, two points behind Leytonstone with a game in hand.
