Magill replaced Clark in the half-back line and Wallis was preferred to old hander Cannon alongside Cousins at the back as the Dons cruised to another heavy win. Soon after the start the Clapton forward Peart injured himself heading clear and while he was off the field Nash put the Dons ahead, Laker and Stannard combining to put Nash in on goal with eighteen minutes gone. Only wild shooting and remarkable goalkeeping kept the home side from increasing the lead before the break, although two efforts found the net only to be disallowed. Firstly a Clapton defender mis-kicked, both Nash and Stannard chased the ball and forced the ball over the line, but the referee had spotted an infringement and called the game back for a free-kick, then Edelston, who had been limping for some time, turned in a pass from Stannard only to be given offside. |
