Frank Lemmer was stricken with ‘flu, so Jones was promoted for his second start of the season and Nash re-appeared at outside-right to the detriment of Birkbeck. Kingstonian also required a re-shuffle when Ted Croker, later to become Secretary of the F.A., was deemed unfit after receiving an injury in a cup tie against Bromley the previous week.

The pitch was a little softer than the previous week, but still covered in snow, although fans had been shovelling since 9am to clear the lines to ensure the game went ahead. Players from both sides struggled to keep upright, but the Dons, playing with a strong wind, managed to create most of the chances early on. Stannard forced Longman to concede a corner with a sharp shot and Nash put through both Edelston and Head but neither could balance themselves enough to get control of the ball. Laker then put Whittaker under pressure, but the experienced defender was able to clear. At the other end Clements was well placed, but shot wide. Edelston then struck the post with an overhead kick and was first to the rebound only to shoot over. Haydock caused an anxious moment in the home defence when he slid when covering a low shot from O’Connell, but he was able to push the ball along the goal-line to safety. With half an hour gone Wimbledon took the lead; Laker struck the bar with a hard drive and Edelston was on hand to put in the rebound, despite the Kingstonian appeals for offside. Wallis was forced into some desperate defending to keep Henderson from equalising and when Crisp’s cracking shot hit the upright Cousins was in place to clear.

The ground was hardening as the game went on, and the second half started with an opportunity for Edelston to increase the lead, but five yards out with the ball at his feet he slipped over backwards, pushing up a shower of snow, and the chance was gone. Crisp repeated his earlier effort, hitting the post with a terrific drive, this time he was first to the rebound but shot over. Thereafter the visitors showed plenty of vigour, but were unable to create any clear chances, both Wallis and Cousins sound at the back, and the home side saw the game out to progress to the next round.
