The local NTC had helped Leytonstone cut the grass for the Dons return game at Leytonstone, and the official programme, a rarity in itself with paper in such short supply, reminded supporters of the many pre-War Isthmian League tussles between the two clubs. James, Webb and Stacey stood aside for the returns of Bridge, McGuire and Corke, all missing from the rout of Youngs Athletic the previous weekend.

The fans were treated to an end to end first-half. Parsons forced a corner and Taylor shot across goal before future Don Smith shot narrowly wide at the other end. Smith then set up Vickery to open the scoring, although Cairns got his hand to the shot. Smith went close again and Harries had one knocked off before the Dons equalised, Parsons' shot only cleared as far as Chandler who fired it back towards goal and Meredith made doubly sure. The home side again took the lead when Bridge's pass back to Cains was intercepted by Griffen, who scored easily. Harries increased the lead still further from another pass from Smith and the home supporters were jubilant. However, this was to prove premature as the Dons fought back to draw level before half-time. Firstly Taylor and Chandler moved the ball to McGuire and his flick found Meredith whose shot deflected off Hill and into the net, then Chandler got on the end of a good run from Lemmer.

In the second half the Dons increased their accuracy and deservedly took the lead when Smith crossed to McGuire and he passed the ball on smartly to leave Meredith with an easy chance for his hat-trick, which he took. Taylor forced Hill into a good save with a low shot before Meredith was forced off for some time after a heavy challenge, but it made no difference and Parsons tested Hill with a bouncing shot that Hill did well to keep out. Leytonstone reorganised, but that didn't help either, Chandler hit the crossbar and then Meredith resumed, McGuire was close with a clever back-header and Smith a foot wide with a shot. Meredith should have finished it off in the last minute but was surprised when McGuire jumped over the ball to give him the chance, but the visitors held their lead easily to win.
