Kingstonian

4 - 2
Wimbledon
Frank Lemmer, Harry Stannard

Table-topping Wimbledon were again unchanged for the visit to lowly Kingstonian, and a comfortable win was anticipated.

Kingstonian had scored four times against the Dons on the opening day of the season, but had conceded six. This time they again scored four, but only conceded twice to upset the visitors. Kingstonian took a rather fortuitous lead with only eight minutes gone. Henderson's attempted pass hit Clark and rebounded to O'Connell who was left with an easy chance. Haydock was forced to clear from the same player to prevent the home side increasing their lead before the Dons got into their stride. Nash and Stannard combined and the former tested Langman, then Laker hesitated when presented with a clear chance of shooting and he passed to Nash instead. Nash crossed but Stannard headed just over. Head twice went close with long range shots and, at the other end, O'Connell ballooned the ball way over from close in. Laker fired a cross right along the goal-line and Nash returned the ball from the other side, Stannard got to the ball but his shot was charged down and Douglas, following up, fired his shot against a defender.

Twenty minutes and two O'Connell corners in two minutes and the Dons were three down, first Stoker then Henderson converting. Wimbledon hit back and clever footwork from Edelston gave him room to cross for Stannard to head past Langman, but Kingstonian would not be thwarted and the Dons' goal had several narrow escapes before O'Connell scored again with a fine shot from Henderson's pass. Wimbledon pulled one back with twelve minutes remaining, Lemmer converting from the spot after Whittaker had brought down Head in the box, but that was the end of the scoring and the visitors were toppled to third place in the table.
