Injuries and representative call-ups forced several changes to the preferred line-up, but the league’s whipping boys were still no match for the Dons. Haydock and Stannard were playing at for Surrey against Herts in the inter-county match at Woking, giving promotions to Forder and Seares and Jim Wallis replaced Woods at half-back. Magill, Cannon and Rhodes were still on the injured list.

It was a scrappy game, with the ball often in the air and the defences relying on long clearances rather than feeding their forwards, but the home side were always in the ascendancy. It only took Green three minutes to open the scoring, beating the visiting keeper with a cross-shot after interchanging passes with Seares. Debutant Forder dealt well with shots from Tate and Morris and the latter shot wide when well placed to score, but for the most part of the first half it was all Wimbledon. Smith, who gave his opponent the run-around, was on hand for the second when Head’s shot was parried to him and Bull hit the bar from a Smith cross, then Head went close with a header.

A mistake at the back gave Casuals temporary hope, the ball breaking lose for Tate to curl the ball beyond Forder’s grasp, and for a while the Old Boys pressed in search of an equaliser, but the home defence was easily their match. Smith changed places with Sears and the forward line came back into the picture. Bull scored directly from a corner and the same player was on hand to head home a pass from Head five minutes later to complete the scoring.
