With Neil playing for his unit Pat Edelston, recently demobbed, became the youngest of three brothers to don Wimbledon colours. Fennell returned in place of Blanche, with Clark moving the back pairing, and Head and Richfield replaced Smith and Viard in a reshuffled front line.

The Dons made light of the snowstorms and Plough Lane mud and inflicted another four goals on Hamlet, but that was only half the story. It was Dulwich who took the lead after ten minutes, Jover riding challenges from Gill and Fuller to shoot past Haydock. Ten minutes later and the home side equalised, firing home a debut goal from Lemmer's free-kick. Fuce took advantage of a depleted defence when Brown was receiving attention to put Wimbledon in the lead, the culmination of a fine passing move between himself and Richfield. Lemmer should have increased the lead from the penalty spot after Meredith was brought down, but shot straight at the keeper, and Edelston had the ball in the net only for Meredith to be adjudged offside. The third finally came when a brilliant shot from Fuce was deflected into his own net by Robbins.

In the second half the Dons forwards wasted many opportunities by drifting offside, but Whitehead was still kept busy dealing with long range efforts. After a clever passing movement Richfield sent in a terrific shot which both Meredith and Edelston followed in to ensure the ball crossed the line, but the referee inexplicably disallowed the score for offside. Wimbledon had a scare when Upton hit the post with a powerful shot, but three minutes from time Edelston sealed victory by hooking the ball in after a grand passing move.
