“Is It Fair To The Public?” asked the Wimbledon News report for this match, “The effort to complete the outstanding fixtures by May 17 has reduced football in this competition to a farce.” With the exception of Haydock in goal the Dons team was made up of fringe, reserve and strollers players. To add insult to injury a group of senior players stood in a group near the main stand watching the game. The newpaper continued, “Spectator’s cannot be expected to pay admission fees to the ground to see such fare as was served up in this game.” |
