AFC Wimbledon will now play away to Hampton & Richmond in the next round of the FA Youth Cup after defeating Hanwell Town away last night.

With strikers Timi Borges-Da-Silva and top scorer Rapson still injured along with missing defenders Amin Ibrahim and Dan Rogers this was always going to be a tough game.

AFC started very brightly and camped in their opponents half early on in this game. Some neat passing and good approach work was evident but the final ball was sometimes lacking. AFC did take the lead from a set play when a short corner from James Stenning to Matt Harmsworth was returned to Stenning whose cross found the unmarked Jordan Hutchinson at the far post where he fired into the corner of the net after 12 minutes. AFC were playing well and scored again when another set piece corner from Billy Manning caused havoc in the Hanwell six yard box, the ball falling to Matt Harmsworth who just beat the keeper to the ball and proded home. 2 - 0 and cruising, but footballs a funny game and gradually Hanwell to their credit started to get into the game. Defensive indecision and a failure to kill off our oponents let them back into the game as on the stroke of half time AFC conceeded a needless penalty when the Hanwell forward going away from the goal was brought down and the resultant penalty dispatched past Tom Gibson in goal.

Hanwell came out for the second half with renewed confidence and after 10 minutes got their equaliser when again another needless and poor tackle in the box gave them another spot kick from which they scored. Poor Tom Gibson in the AFC goal hardly had a save to make all night but was given no chance from two well taken spot kicks. The equaliser seemed to transform the Dons as we again started to dominate the game. On the hour Harry Knock replaced Josh Ayres in midfield and before he got his first touch we were again in front when another Billy Manning corner was not cleared and Jordan Hutchinson was on hand to score his second and our third of the game. We wrapped up the game in the 72 minute when good play in and around the box led to a Matt Harmsworth shot being well saved by the Hanwell keeper only for Billy Manning to fire in the rebound to give us a two goal advantage again. In the last 15 minutes or so we had further chances to score and we kept the spirited Hanwell team at bay.
