Former Wimbledon striker Dean Holdsworth scored against his old club to maintain second-placed Bolton's promotion push.

Holdsworth, who left Wimbledon for Bolton three years ago for £3.5million, scored the only goal 13 minutes from time.

On as a second half substitute for Ian Marshall, he pounced with a low, angled drive after team-mate Kevin Nolan had been blocked by a brave save from Wimbledon goalkeeper Kelvin Davis.

Hendry-Hartson clash

The anticipated clash of the strong men, Wimbledon top scorer John Hartson and Bolton's on-loan defender Colin Hendry, did not really live up to expectations.

Hendry, the former Scotland captain hoping to refresh his career with three months of regular action instead of warming the Coventry bench, quickly settled alongside Gudni Bergsson.

Together, they checked the twin threat of Hartson and Jason Euell, with Hendry generally looking assured against the pace of Euell and Hartson's strength.

Bolton showed Wimbledon a lot of respect by leaving top scorer Michael Ricketts on the bench and starting with caution, frequently involving the goalkeeper with back passes rather than taking unnecessary risks.

Wanderers threw aside some of their caution by bringing on Ricketts with only half an hour gone and putting pressure on the Dons' defence.

Wimbledon were having their best spell of the game just prior to Bolton's winner. The Dons came backstrongly after Holdsworth's goal.

Francis had a cracking shot well saved and then Mark Williams, up for a corner, struck a shot against the outside of a post.
