Jock Woods returned to the full-back pair with recovered Ron Head trying out at half-back for the Dons visit to the Spotted Dog ground. But it turned out to be a straightforward tussle between the home defence and the visiting attack. Under almost constant pressure the Clapton backs and halves kept their cool and in goal veteran Robson proved himself one of the most capable custodians in the Isthmian League, saving his side from a trouncing. Charlie Smith’s form was greatly improved, no doubt due to a prolonged run of games, and he made some excellent openings with headers and deft passes, but Wimbledon were unable to open the scoring in the first period. |
