With Pat Field and Harry Stannard injured and Jack Wallis unable to leave work early enough to play, the Dons did well to beat a full strength Avenue side at Plough Lane. Despite falling behind, against the run of play, to a Jim Lewis goal Wimbledon refused to buckle and Charlie Smith levelled the scores before the break. Totally dominant after the interval, Bull followed up to score from a Harry Wallis shot that had rebounded off the crossbar. As the hosts continued to put the As defence under severe pressure, the referee awarded two penalties and Gauntlett converted both to complete the scoring. |
