Afantastic solo effort from Paul Weller gave Burnley the spoils against wWmbledon at Turf Moor.

The striker, who was sidelined for a year due to a stomach problem, sprinted from the halfway line to score a breathtaking goal.

Dons skipper Alan Kimble tried in vain to stop Weller but to no avail as the forward smashed a great shot past Kelvin Davis.

Wimbledon provided little threat on the Burnley goal and it took until the 77th minute before they struck a shot on target.

Palmed away

Damien Francis swivelled to only see his effort palmed away by Burnley 'keeper Paul Crichton.

Burnley had many opportuities to wrap up the points with Glen Little shooting wide and former Sheffield Wednesday star Lee Briscoe smashing a volley high over the bar.

Briscoe was unlucky to see another effort rebound off Crichton's inside post and bounce to safety.

The promoted side always had the edge over relegated Wimbledon and the spirit from last year's Second Division campaign was always evident.

Turf Moor favourite Andy Payton came on in the last 10 minutes to add a little spice to the attack as Wimbledon faltered.
