Two goals each from David Connolly and Neil Shipperley ensured Manchester City's season continues to be unpredictable.

Wimbledon went ahead on the break through Connolly and he doubled the visitors' advantage from the penalty spot.

Substitute Neil Shipperley condemned Kevin Keegan's side to a humiliating defeat with two goals in the final seven minutes.

City began in the same positive vein that carried them to a 6-2 win against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

Darren Huckerby and Shaun Goater went close while the Dons spent most of the time on the back foot.

But after 22 minutes, Kevin Cooper was brought down by Ali Benarbia after latching on to a Michael Hughes rebound.

Connolly coolly converted the penalty, and Wimbledon went further ahead in the 34th minute.

Jermaine Darlington raced past Richard Dunne on the left before crossing for the unmarked Connolly to head home from six yards out.

City improved after the break and Steve Howey missed a great chance to cut the deficit when he headed just wide from Danny Tiatto's cross.

But they could not make the breakthrough, and on 83 minutes Shipperley made sure of the points with a glorious strike from 25 yards out.

Shipperley rubbed salt in the wound in the third minute of stoppage time with another goal, and Keegan's men were booed off the Maine Road pitch.
