Having been saved by late equalisers in their previous two games, the tables were turned as Walsall left south London with a point having levelled with two minutes to go. Goals either side of half time from Connolly looked to have given Wimbledon their first midweek league win at home in almost four years but the Sadlers refused to give up and their substitute Leita fired home a 20 yard strike to clinch a point.

"It was another frustrating evening for us as we dominated possession but could not finish the job," Burton commented. "People expect you to roll over the likes of Walsall but they are a decent side."
